Description
A force-sensing linear potentiometer like the TPE-520 is both a variable force and position sensor in a single device. It is designed for single finger use so isn’t multi-touch, but can be used for reporting the mean force and position of two or more touch points if desired. The electronics must multiplex between modes in order to detect the force and position function. The force circuit is normally open when the device is not loaded. When force is applied to the sensing area, an initial surface contact is made and a high resistance value displayed. As force is increased, the resistance decreases.
Potentiometers offer unique capabilities including: large resistance range, incremental or infinite resistance and Z capabilities. They are ideal for and are currently used in control panels, dashboard controls, media players and foot pedals.
Tangio’s FSR range has three options for the connecting end of your sensors. Simply add the option at the end of the part number. For example, a TPE-520 with option A connectors has the part number TPE-520A.
Option A: The tail on the FSR ends with a pair of exposed carbon traces, for a direct connection.
Option B: The FSR tail ends in bronze/tin plated solder tabs.
Option C: Bronze/tin plated termination pins are enclosed in CNT female housing.
At Steadlands, we carry the ‘B’ variant of FSR, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units. Types ‘A’ and ‘C’ are available by special order, and have a minimum order quantity of 100 pieces. Please contact us to discuss this further.
